The Mevo finally hit stores this week, and I’ve got my hands on one of the first review units.
Instant reaction–you’ve never seen a webcam like this!
The Mevo is being marketed as the easiest way to put a quality production on Facebook Live–just plug it in, download the app, set your wifi, click the record button for Facebook Live or you’re on the air.
Or, as the company says: “Your iPhone is now your personal video editing suite — zoom, pan and cut with ease, all from a single camera. Or tap the subjects in your shot and let Mevo do the work for you.”
The Mevo works as advertises–with caveats–with a picture quality that ranged from excellent in decent lighting, to poor in a dimly lit room.
Live broadcasting on mobile phones is one of the biggest trends of the year, as millions of people go direct to their followers from live events, parties and behind the scene locations. Followers enjoy the immediacy of the moment–despite what’s often shaky camera movement and poor sound.
There are ways to plug in cameras for Facebook Live to get better sound, a steadier image, and even professional tools like switching back and forth between the host and guest, for a more pleasing image. (Rival Periscope doesn’t offer the plug-in camera option.)
